O'zapft is! (the beer has been tapped) is the cry every year when the first barrel of beer has been freshly tapped and the annual Oktoberfest gets started. With about 6 million visitors per year the Oktoberfest is the largest festival in the world and is known well beyond Germany's borders. But Munich has a great deal to offer apart from the Oktoberfest. In addition to well-known brands such as Siemens and FC Bayern München with its rich footballing tradition, there is one corporation which is particularly representative of the city – BMW. With the production of high-class automobiles the Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) made a name for itself very early and has since then ranked among the premium manufacturers in the automobile business. With turnover of € 92.2 billion and a workforce of 122,000 (2015) it is one of Germany's major companies, which also makes it an important employer. Bavaria's major city is famous for its enjoyment of life and vibrancy. All those who have tasted its individual specialities in the beer garden, for example 'Weißwürste' with pretzels or 'Leberkäs', become fans of Bavaria's culinary culture.
